Don't Forget To Tip Your Servers Folks

On our way back home this evening from our trip, my family stopped to have some dinner. For the most part I consider my husband and I to be pretty generous tippers. We figure if you have to wait on us and our crazy five and two year old kids then you deserve a little something extra. Basically as long as you aren't completely awful, you'll get a nice tip from us. Tonight our waiter was a pretty young guy, probably a college student in the town we stopped in. We figured this was his part time job while in school. He seemed relatively new because a few times he seemed unsure how to handle things but he was trying hard and was really nice to the kids. He checked on us many times to make sure we were okay and refill our drinks which is always nice, but there were a few things that didn't go right. Nothing major... but since it was so obvious that he was trying his best to get and fix everything and he was a young student, we figured he could use a little something extra. So for today's good deed, when the bill came we just doubled the amount for his tip. Was it the best service we've ever had? No, not really, but he was personable, worked hard and owned up when he made a mistake instead of blaming it on someone else or just ignoring it all together. My husband especially figured that that young guy could use that money more than we could and that gesture may have just made his whole night.
